Drum in the community

It doesn’t seem that long ago that Nicola decided that we should buy bogof offers in the supermarket and donate one item to charity – but actually it’s been several years now that we’ve been supporting Camden’s homelessness outreach and streetwork projects. In particular, as all those visitors who have had to manoeuvre around bags of clothes and boxes of books will be only too aware, we are major supporters of the Salvation Army Outreach Team based at Faith House in Argyll Street, Kings Cross. The team works with sex workers, the homeless and people who misuse alcohol and drugs —and thanks to the generosity of our media colleagues and clients we are able to help Faith House with books, clothing and food. Although discovering that Armen’s wife thought most of his wardrobe should be given away was a bit of a shock for him... He had thought he looked good in neon yellow!

The collections are put to very good use. Last year police raids smashed a sex trade trafficking ring and the rescued women were given food, toiletries and clothing by the Faith House team using our donations.

This year a big success has been the growth of the library for marginalised, at risk and vulnerable people — a tip for visitors: never leave a paperback laying around the office otherwise Nicola will have it in the collection before you can say ‘the butler did it!’ – and we’re hoping to extend lending next year so that more people can try to escape the boredom of street living with a good book.

So if you’re visiting or just passing Diamond House, don’t forget to drop off any unwanted clothes, food or books! All donations will be gratefully received by Faith House.

Thanks!

PS: We also make up Christmas parcels so any scarves, warm socks, hats and toys would be especially welcome!
